Queenstown Walks and Hikes

Take In The Best Of Nature

We are blessed with an abundance of shorter walks and longer full-day hikes available from the top of the Gondola for all ability levels to enjoy. See below for a selection of our favourites!

Thinking about conquering the epic 6-8 hour Ben Lomond summit hike, but don't feel comfortable doing it alone or without someone with local knowledge? Starting this summer 2021/22, we are excited to announce that we will be launching 2 guided walk options covering both Bob's Peak and Ben Lomond!

  • Skyline Loop Track (30 minute walk - return)

Take the Gondola up to Skyline. Follow the signage from the base building up past the Luge to the reservoir, turn right at the signpost and meander through the trees before descending back to the Skyline building. Make sure you take time to enjoy the serenity of the bush.
    Type: Easy walking.

  • Lower Ridge Track (50 minute walk - return)

Take the Gondola up to Skyline. Follow the walking track up to the Luge and take the signposted track to the Paragliders. Pass the reservoir and keep walking uphill till signposted to Lower Ridge Track. Follow the track up through the pines, appreciate the absolute silence before emerging onto the ridge above Bob's Peak. Panoramic views of the lake, mountains and beyond.
Type: Easy to moderate walk. Steady uphill walking.

  • Tiki Trail (1 hour walk - one way)

Starting at the base of the Gondola, the Tiki Trail is an alternative route to get to Skyline Queenstown and the top of Bob's Peak. You'll zig-zag up the mountain through the pine forest and be rewarded with a postcard-worthy view. Go to the base of the Gondola and look for signs indicating the Tiki Trail just beside Skyline's bottom terminal.
Type: Easy to moderate Hike. Steady uphill walking.

  • Moonlight Track to Arthur's Point via the Saddle (6 hour hike - one way)

This trail is one of the most popular in the region. This can be a full day walk so take extra clothing, drinks and food. Take the Gondola to Skyline, follow the signs to the saddle then the descent on your right down to the Moonlight Track. Turn right and follow the historic Moonlight Track back to Arthur's Point. The Moonlight Track is not a loop, so make sure you have transport arranged pick you up at the other end!
Type: Moderate hike. A good level of fitness is required.

  • Ben Lomond Summit (6-8 hour hike - return)

One of the highest peaks in the Wakatipu basin providing the most stunning views of the region. This can be a full day walk so take extra clothing, drinks and food. Take the Gondola to Skyline, follow the signs to the saddle and the steep ascent on your left to the summit (1747m). In winter you will need to carry and be able to use alpine equipment such as ice axe and crampons. The track may change between very slippery and muddy. The weather changes rapidly in this region. Hypothermia is a real risk even in summer.
Type: Moderate to advanced hike. A good level of fitness is required.
