Which Route Should You Choose?

Crown Range Route – 68km (1 hour and 10 minutes)
This route is shorter in distance but suits a more confident driver as the Crown Range Road is steep, with sharp hairpin turns. Plus, it’s often packed with tourists in summer, and it can be icy in winter. However, it’s an unforgettably scenic drive!
State Highway 6 – 113km (1 hour 30 minutes)
Taking SH6 through Cromwell is the most reliable and fastest way to reach Wanaka. This route still has plenty of sightseeing options available but it’s not quite as scenic.
