Back in the ‘60s, when Queenstown was just a sleepy little mountain town, a bunch of local pioneers put their heads together and came up with a hair-brained scheme to build a Gondola.
In November 1967 this crazy idea turned into reality when the Southern Hemisphere’s first ever Gondola ride was officially opened.
In the first year over 80,000 passengers took the ride up to Bob’s Peak and suddenly the world started taking notice… and those numbers just keep climbing. Last year over 850,000 passengers rode the Gondola and enjoyed some of the fun!
