About Skyline Rotorua

Conveniently located just minutes from Rotorua's City centre, high on the side of Mount Ngongotaha, the Gondola will carry you to 487 metres above sea level to a stunning enviroment providing panoramic views of Rotorua City, Lake Rotorua and the surrounding area.

Skyline Rotorua is an all weather attraction, and is open every day of the year. Operating hours are from 9.00am daily until end of operation each night.

Gondola Cableway

A 900 metre long Doppelmayr cableway system with a vertical rise of 178.5 metres, is capable of carrying 2000 people an hour in eight-seater cabins.

History in brief:

1984 - Contruction begins
1985 - Gondola complex and first ever Luge site opens for business
1997 - Skyline Rotorua wins New Zealand Tourism Award
2005 - New 10 million dollar 8 seater Gondola installed
2012 - Food Market Kitchen and Wine Tasting Room opens
2013 - Celebrates the 15 Millionth Luge rider in Rotorua

Getting Here

From Taupo and the south
On your approach to Rotorua, turn left into Old Taupo Road at the Waiariki Polytechnic, continue along Old Taupo Road which continues as Fairy Springs Road at the major intersection of Clayton Road and Lake Road.

Continue along Fairy Springs Road for approximately two kilometres, our entrance is sign-posted on your left hand side.

From Auckland and the north

Travel into Rotorua on SH5. We are located at the entrance of Rotorua, sign-posted on your right hand side.

Public Transport:

City Ride Rotorua Bus

Route 1 - Ngongotaha from Pukuatua Street Terminus. Departs every half hour, $2.30/fare or $7.40/day pass (ideal for visitors as this bus route passes many attractions including Rainbow Wildlife Park, Ogo, Agrodome, Agroventures and Zorb)

Taylor's Tours

Offers a pick up service from Skyline back into the city centre (I-Site tourism information office)
