Skyline’s main private function venue, the Wakatipu Room, is set to be transformed with a major refurbishment planned for May/June 2009.
The refurbishment will be completed to the same high standard as the recent 2008 award winning restaurant refurbishment. The renovation will feature a modern and contemporary décor, timber detailing, an extended bar and a new sound and lighting system. The corridor space from the restaurant/entrance level through to the Wakatipu room entrance and viewing deck area will also be included in the upgrade.
The Wakatipu room is Queenstown’s premier function event location, capable of hosting gala dinners, incentives, weddings and Day Conferences. The Wakatipu room boasts spectacular views overlooking Queenstown, providing a stunning backdrop for any occasion.
The new sound & lighting system will offer flexible locations for staging and rigging depending on venue setup requirements. The entire venue can also be easily blacked out should the need arise with full blackout curtains installed.
The Wakatipu room is one of 5 function venues onsite, and can host up to 220 people for Exclusive Dining or up to 350 people for Day Conferencing. The room can also be divided into smaller spaces, ideal for groups of 20 – 100 people dining or 25 – 160 people conferencing.
Skyline is an incredibly popular option with function groups enjoying the flexibility of choosing from tantalizing set menus, with the opportunity to design their own set menu with Skyline’s Flexibility Plus Menu Designer, which can suit all dietary and budget requirements. Manager, Blair Deasy says “This is where our chefs really excel, customizing a menu to suit even the most unusual request. We’ve long been known for our buffet restaurant and now our set menus are gaining a very good reputation in the marketplace.”
The Wakatipu room refurbishment is to coincide with the scheduled gondola upgrade, during which time the entire Skyline complex will be closed from 11 May to 7 June 2009 inclusive. The gondola upgrade will result in a 700 to 1000 person increase in capacity and allow priority queuing at the gondola base to be introduced for conference and incentive groups.
Skyline Gondola, Restaurant & Luge Manager Blair Deasy is absolutely thrilled with the planned modernization of the Wakatipu Room, “The new Wakatipu room will complete a refurbishment program that has seen our gondola, luge and restaurant all modernized and positions our facilities as well and truly world class! We took the opportunity to involve our key suppliers in the process to create a function venue that will meet market demand for years to come.”
