Mark Inglis to Scale Bob’s Peak

Launching a new community entertainment initiative, iconic Queenstown venue, Skyline Gondola, Restaurant & Luge, will host an evening with Everest mountaineer and award-winning sportsman Mark Inglis. Innovative altitude simulation company io is to partner Skyline’s inaugural initiative through sponsorship support. The ‘Evening with Mark Inglis’ to be held on Friday 4 August is to be the first of a year-long programme of special events bringing well known New Zealanders to the resort.

The event will be one of Mark’s first public speaking engagements since becoming the world’s first double amputee to summit Mount Everest in a phenomenal achievement on May 15. “People will learn a lot – it’s not your average Everest expedition story,” said Mark.

Broadcaster Craig ‘Ferg’ Ferguson (Classic Hits breakfast presenter) will MC the evening which will start with a glass of bubbles, to be followed by a sumptuous dinner before peaking with Mark’s personal insight into his Everest expedition. Mark Woodward, the Queenstown mountaineer who led Mark’s trip on the day of the summit climb, will join guests.

Skyline Gondola, Restaurant & Luge manager Blair Deasy is absolutely thrilled to host Mark Inglis in this one-off social event. I find it hard to describe just how much admiration and respect I have for Mark Inglis. He’s an inspiring, powerful and incredibly visionary man and it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to host members of our community at Skyline Gondola to hear Mark’s success story first hand. “This is just the start of our new entertainment programme which will bring some wonderful New Zealanders to town, but what a way to begin! We can’t wait to meet Mark and host this special evening,” said Blair.

A popular spot for visitors taking in Queenstown’s breathtaking vista, Skyline is a firm favourite with locals and is home to one of the winter festival’s most popular events, the Jazz Night.

io CEO Michael Lodge believes the evening will provide a rare opportunity to meet one of the country’s most determined figures. “Setting his sights high and striving towards a goal which culminated in a spectacular result has made Mark a celebrated household name in New Zealand, and globally,” Michael said. “There are very clear benefits from altitude simulation for anyone contemplating alpine climbing and we hope that our programme can provide people inspired by Mark with support in achieving their own personal challenges.”

Tickets are competitively priced at $75 for adults, $35 for children and $700 for a table of ten adults. Tickets are available from Friday 14 July from Skyline Gondola, Restaurant & Luge by calling 03 441 0851.
