A Special Birthday at the Luge

Posted on Sunday, 10 August 2014

We recently received a great Facebook message from guest Ruth Malone, who thanked Skyline Rotorua for helping to make her son's 21st birthday extra special. Ruth wrote:

Our Autistic son is too big to double but he loves the Luge....We hadn't been able to take him for ages (6 years) as he was getting difficult to double. We decided to risk it and give it a go even if we had to crawl!....Your staff were awesome. They told us about the disability cart, rang ahead, set it all up and it was just great! He couldn't have had a better 21st present!

That got us thinking: Other families like Ruth's might not be aware that we can accommodate special needs riders at the Skyline Luge!

The way we do it is simple. We have several double-decker luge carts that provide a second seat for an extra rider. (We also use these carts when we host film crews who need to luge hands-free.)

Our double-decker carts allow guests to enjoy the fun and excitement of the Skyline Luge while their parent or guardian takes care of the driving! After all, the Luge is a great activity for the whole family.

If you'd like to use one of these special carts, simply let our staff know when you purchase your tickets at the bottom of the gondola, and we'll take care of the rest. Or, you can contact us ahead of time on 07 347 0027, via email, or using our online enquiry form.

Enjoy the ride!
